Bi Application

A visual analytics platform that aids everyone in the business to integrate, analyse and share data insights.

To comply with my non-disclosure agreement, I have omitted confidential information in this case study. All information in this case study is my own and does not necessarily reflect the views of the company.
My Role
Redesigned a single cloud end-to-end analytics platform for business analyst, sales and traders to integrate, visualise, discover and share data at one place. Being the first in-house designer in the company. I was involved in all aspects of the product lifecycle, from brainstorming and defining the requirements with the PMs, to designing and testing the interfaces, as well as working with developers to make sure everything comes together just right.
The approach
Easy, Fast and Integrate Data Insights
Currently the business analysts use various tools to manage analyse and share data insights. I was tasked to design one common platform allowing them to manage their data across multiple platforms and switching across platforms leads to error and inconsistencies while working on the data.

Lean UX Method Approach
Product design and development were carried out  parallelly for the Business Analyst (Bi) Dashboard.  Each component of the product was serialised. Once each component was designed and approved, the development team began the implementation.
I followed by testing with the platform experts and redesigning product features according to their feedback . Simultaneously, I designed the next feature in the pipeline, while also working with my own platform development teams to execute the current feature through to completion.
Working backwards from a fixed deadline, meant that design was incorporated into an development‐driven process. Sign‐off milestones were driven by development estimates and time to create the right design was the time left over.

"The mix of a fixed deadline and the complex domain data structure created an intense environment with many coordination and time challenges."
Getting Key Insights
A beta version of this product already existed, therefore I conducted extensive user interviews and heuristic evaluation to identify the the major problem areas and concerns for the redesign phase.

User Interviews
Remote and face-to-face interviews were conducted with our alpha users to know about what issues they were facing when using the product. The interview was structured with basic questions about their daily workflow and then moved to their experience of using our tool. In addition to this, I also analysed the product for existing experience and design issues.
The Framework
Identifying the Key Tasks
The issues which surfaced during the user feedback and experience evaluation led to the formation of key features that would enhance the user interaction with the application and boost their performance time.

Iterative Information Architecture & Task Flow
Being a data driven application, creating the information flow and structuring the data was an iterative process. Having the right data structure in place was of utmost important as it would have a major impact on the quality of the user’s experience.
